EV CHARGING LEVELS AND FINDING A CHARGING STATION - QUICK START

 Important Note About Charging: Charging your battery to 80% for daily use helps promote battery health and optimal regenerative braking performance. For longer trips, you can adjust your charge above 80% for extended range. Consumers should see their Owner’s Manual for more information. There Are Three Types of Electric Vehicle Charging: Level 1: The slowest level of charging that can be done at any standard 3- prong (120V) outlet. It’s best used as a last resort option in an emergency situation or to “top off” after short trips. Adds up to 3.5 miles of range per hour of charging (for model year 2024 AWD and RWD models).   Level 2: Faster than Level 1. Requires a 4-prong (240V) wall outlet or 240V hardwired charging unit installed by a professional electrician. Level 2 charging is the most frequently used type of charging for EV drivers. Depending on your home charging equipment and vehicle equipment, Level 2 charging can add up to: 21 miles of range per hour (mph) (7.7 kW...

Types of Plug-In Vehicles

Types of Commercial EV Chargers

 Types of Commercial EV Chargers There are currently three types of commercial EV charging stations, with differences you should understand.  Here’s what you need to know about the three types of commercial EV charging stations for your electric vehicle. Level 1 Charging Stations (12 hour charge/6-8 miles of range per hour) When you plug your EV into the wall socket behind your garage workbench, you have just created a Level 1 charging station. Level 1 stations are called for where only a 120V AC outlet is available, and less than 5% of all public charging stations are of this type.    Level 1 stations are the slowest charging stations.  A 12-hour charge using 120V power only delivers about 96 miles of driving range for a normal mid-size electric vehicle.  Still, most EVs are delivered with a Level 1 cord set that features a NEMA standard three-prong home plug connector on one end and an SAE J1772 connector on the other that plugs into the car.  Level ...

Electric Vehicle Charging Station (EVCS)

Image
  Electric Vehicle Charging Station (EVCS) EVCS or Electric Vehicle Charging Station , or electric vehicle supply equipment(EVSE), is equipment that connects an electric vehicle (EV) to a source of electricity to recharge the battery of electric cars. Electric vehicle charging station is one most important infrastructure to support electric vehicles. Charging stations are also called electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE).  Currently EVCS in Indonesia is still rare.   But with the issuance of Presidential Regulation (Peraturan Presiden RI) No.55 in 2019, it is likely that the coming year EVCS will grow rapidly. Electric Vehicle (EV) and EVCS Components EVCS delivers electrical energy from the power source to the EV, and ensures that an appropriate, and safe, flow of electricity is supplied to the vehicle. EVCS is the main interface between user, vehicle, and utility Battery – Located on-board the vehicle and is the power (DC) storage component Charger – Converts power f...

OEM、ODM、OBM、OPM

What is Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE)?

Image
What is Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE)? Electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) controls the transfer of electricity from the local power supply to an electric vehicle (EV) so its batteries can recharge safely and efficiently. While electric vehicle supply equipment is the industry’s technical term, common — and very acceptable — names used for EVSE include EV chargers, charging stations, charge points, or charging docks. When we think of EV charging, our mental picture is an EV connected via a cable to a public charging station or to a box on the wall of a home garage. It looks a lot like connecting a smartphone to a plugged-in charger, only on a much bigger scale. In general principles, it is. But the universe of EVSE is far more complex. EVSE options range from simple to complex, with multiple form factors, use cases, charging levels, connectors, standards and protocols. So, while it’s perfectly OK to call EVSE an “EV charger,” the term covers a lot of territory. What a...

Inside EVSE

Image
  Inside EVSE Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) provides a connection between EVs and the power they need to charge their batteries. Although the EVSE is commonly called a charging station, this term is not technically accurate because the actual charging components are inside the vehicle. Established by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the most common types of charging stations being installed today are the: SAE Level 2  (equivalent to International Electrotechnical Commission [IEC] Mode 3): A level with a 240V single-phase, 19.2kW, and up to 80A (typically 32A) for residential and commercial use. SAE Level 3  (equivalent to IEC Mode 4): A level also called  Direct Current Fast Charge (DCFC)  with 200–600V DC , up to 240kW, and 400A for commercial use. In North America, an EV typically comes with a Level 1 portable charging station designed to plug into a standard 120V power supply or with a Level 2 portable unit. However, there are many other ...
